''Rooney took the corner, I jumped and that was when I heard a shout from Richards and simultaneously the sound of a whistle," Ronaldo told The Sun.

"I was convinced that the ref had blown for a foul. I stopped trying to head the ball and score a goal. I grabbed the ball so Richards could get help.

"It never entered my mind that the referee would show me another yellow card because, for me, I hadn’t done anything wrong.

"To the contrary, after Richards yelled I thought he was hurt and needed assistance."

Ronaldo may find some consolation in the fact that the England defender will miss City's midweek UEFA Cup clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Most blatant red card of the season
Ref blatantly blew the whistle after the incident

How'd you work that one out?

Ronaldo would've realised the ref didn't blow his whistle when watching the replay, he's just saying he THOUGHT he heard it :)

You have to believe him where he says he thought he heard a whistle because he has a clear chance to score but blocks it with his hands. But unfortunately for him it is deliberate handball and a card had to be given.

He thought he heard it = past tense = what he believed he heard at the time = he now knows a whistle didn't blow.

Would you like me to dum it down further for you?

same you have to give him the benefit of the doubt and i have quite a few times heard a sound like a whistle going and stop play.

Handball -

Deliberate handball by a player & Disciplinary sanctions:

• Caution if unsporting behaviour. For example:
– To prevent an opponent gaining possession
– Attempts to score a goal

Ronaldo's was neither so I am still unsure as to whether the yellow card was the correct decision. I'm disappointed I don't know but the case is so rare. The ref should've used common sense and not booked him if this is the case :deepthought:

But theres a chance that City could have gone on the counter after the header and scored, but because of his handball play had to be stopped.

You're fucking tiring :clown:

He would've seen the replay and realised the ref didn't blow his whistle so it was only at the time he's claiming he heard something. It's like hallucination with sound :smoke:
