REAL MADRID are in pole position to sign Manchester United and Arsenal target Klaas Jan Huntelaar.

The Ajax striker, 25, had previously revealed an interest in moving to the Premier League.

But speculation in Holland has seen his club admit negotiations are already underway for a switch to La Liga.

A statement read: “Ajax are in talks with Real Madrid over the possible sale of Klaas Jan Huntelaar to the Spanish club.

“However, no deal has been agreed at the moment.”

Huntelaar, who joined the Amsterdam team in January 2005, has scored 76 goals in 92 matches.

Huntelaar heading to Real
Holland international striker agrees deal until 2013

Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar from Ajax.

Real made the announcement on their official website, with Huntelaar due to move to Santiago Bernabeu on a contract which runs until 2013.

According to Ajax's official website, Huntelaar will join Madrid on 2nd January for an initial 20million euros (£17million), rising to a potential 27million euros (£23million).

The Holland international has been brought in as a replacement for compatriot Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

Huntelaar had been linked with a host of Europe's leading clubs after his goalscoring exploits in the Eredivisie, with Real winning the race for his signature.
Agreement

Real's statement read: "Huntelaar is the new Real Madrid player. Real Madrid and Ajax Amsterdam have reached an agreement for the forward.

"As usual, the deal is dependent on the player passing a medical and the signing of his contract with Real Madrid.

"Klaas Jan Huntelaar will be tied to Real Madrid until June 30, 2013."

Huntelaar is currently sidelined by an ankle injury which is set to rule him out until early 2009.

Uefa rules state that once the deal is completed Huntelaar can be eligible to be added to Madrid's squad for the UEFA Champions League, as he has only competed with Ajax this season in the Uefa Cup.

The deal will earn Dutch club Heerenveen around 2.5million euros as part

of the agreement Ajax signed when they signed the player in 2005.

We dont need him anyway as we have Adebayor who is a little bit like him.

Except that it takes Huntelaar 2 chances to score, whereas Adebayor needs 6.

Except that Ade can get 6 chances a game whereas Huntelaar can't because of his deficiencies...

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Voor-Drempt, 1983) now belongs to Real Madrid. The Dutch 25-year old leaves Ajax for the Spanish capital and will be sorely missed in Amsterdam. Nicknamed "The Hunter" because of his scoring ability, Huntelaar has averaged 20 goals a season throughout his professional career. Last year he became the first Ajax player to exceed 30 since 1986/87. Three ways to describe the striker are opportunist, powerful aerial game, and insatiable thirst for scoring.

His positioning and wit near the opponent's goal have played a key role in his scoring ability. He is always in the right place at the right time to capitalize. At 6'1" (185 cm), Huntelaar's best skill however is his aerial game.

The striker is also extremely talented at playing with his back towards the goal and is versatile enough to serve as pivot-man for attacking midfielders. Equally skilled with both feet, Huntelaar possesses a powerful strike and is a set-piece specialist.

The Hunter has scored 136 goals in 192 matches, and as an international has found the back of the net on ten occasions in 18 caps. He has twice been the top scorer of the Eredivise with 33 goals in each campaign.

He made his top flight debut with PSV Eindhoven on 23 November 2002 at the age of 19 after scoring 26 goals in 23 matches for the youth team. Huntelaar then played on loan for De Graafschap followed by AGOVV Apeldoorn. Heerenveen then signed him one season later before Ajax scooped him up in 2005.
