Right decision to send him off.

Tackled from behind...and a Deliberate handball.

He can actually count himself lucky not to have been sent off earlier after he  sarcastically Clapped the ref after recieving the first yellow.

He's running the risk under the new respect campaign but that would've been a silly sending off.

It's happened to almost every other player who sarcastically clapped the ref including Rooney

Not when they applaud a yellow card, only when they applaud a foul :)

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

1. I never said Rooney's wasn't an exception, just that most players who do it after they are booked do not receive a yellow.

2. Rooney's was an aggressive 'in your face' type of clap. Ronaldo's was a light-hearted, understated clap made with a smile on his face.

Ronaldo did not have a smile on his face and it was right in front of the ref. Sarcastically applauding the ref in any way isn't showing any respect.

Anyway, It would have been hard on either team whatever way the decison went, As he was sent off United felt it was Harsh because he heard a whistle, Where as if he didn't get sent off it would have been very harsh on City because it was deliberate hand ball, which is a yellow card.

Match won for United anyway, and he misses the cup match which he wasn't going to play in anyway so no harm done. ;)
