"I have often come up against Claude Makelele," said the Anfield ace. "He's always marked me closely and always done a decent job. He may be small, but he's strong and quick and a really difficult player.

"He would be my number one choice.

"I played against Roy Keane early in my career and he was the best around at that time. He was fitter and stronger than me at that time and the impact he had on Manchester United was a real eye-opener.

"I'll never forget the FA Cup final of 2001 when Patrick Vieira was on a different level to everyone else. He was outstanding and went into overdrive that day.

"Paul Scholes is very clever with his movement and can play around you. You have to be right on top of your game to play against him. If Xabi Alonso is on his game and on form then he is unplayable."

He has picked the 3 best CMs to grace the Prem, as well as Makelele who in my opinion is around 5th/6th, after providing Chelsea with 4 years of top quality service.

Lampard is the notable absentee he fails to mention maybe because he's had few personal battles with him.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Lampard has been a much better midfielder than Alonso in the last 5 years but I suppose an element of favouritism and admiration for Alonso's style is what swayed him.

He's still a top footballer with an incredible mentality. His celebrations ooze class.

I know, one of 6 Pool players to do so, the other 5 being Gerrard, Ladyboy, Benayoun, Kuyt and Crouchy...

But most of Babel's were against shit sides.
