read that

this is a quote from it

Quote:

I find it a disgrace that he didn't win European Football of the Year in 2005 after Istanbul. For me, he is one of the best ever. I always told him how much I admired him. He's a midfielder and if you look at all the important goals he's scored - well I can't even think of a striker in the world who has scored as many important goals, never mind a midfielder. How many times has he done it in the dying seconds of a game? I am trying to think of a striker now who does it - there aren't any. Think about it. or me, and I have always said this, he will be regarded as one of the greatest midfielders ever when he finishes his career. No doubt. Okay, he doesn't do the showboating thing. That doesn't matter. The guy is always putting his foot in, always scoring and doing what he has to do to make his team win. That is what football is all about. He is the guy who makes Liverpool spark.

Legend, Great man..
Thierry aint bad either ;)

Tevez scored many late and important goals last season, it doesn't make him a world beater because quite frankly he is not even good enough to make the current United first 11...

Most goals are important in the outcome of a match, and Ronaldihno and Lampard deservedly scooped their awards that season.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

have you ever played against gerrard?
no exactly
everyone says you dont appreciate just how good gerrard is until you train eevry day with him or play against him
so i think footballers have better opinions on him then you do

I probably watch more Liverpool games than Henry has in the last 5 years...

And surely the point you make about actually playing with Gerrard applies to you too :D

The best trainer in world football is probably Paul Scholes.

How do I know?

Well, I have seen him warm up at Old Trafford and his one-touch stuff is exceptional.

Secondly, it's usually the most gifted players that shine in training sessions.

Thirdly, you hear about what he does in training all the time. Various quotes from fellow players.

For example:
Rio -
Quote:

'For me, it's Paul Scholes. He'll do ridiculous things in training like say, "You see that tree over there?" - it'll be 40 yards away - "I'm going to hit it". And he'll do it. Everyone at the club considers him the best.'

Rubbish players don't bag 100 career club goals at the age of 28...

He's averaged around 16 goals a season in the last 5 years...rubbish players don't do that, end of story :)

But if we are to debate sensibly then you'd have a good case for Gerrard being severely overhyped as his reputation is built upon late or important goals, namely in Europe, with MOTD watchers unable to take his overall game into account - which includes tactical ineptitude, trying to force play instead of patiently waiting for the right opportunity, and an inability to keep it simple when best to.

exactly, so you agree with me he is rubbish?

Common sense would suggest he's not rubbish but in my book he's far from a footballing God, let's be honest

I rate Lampard, Vieira, Keane, Makelele, Scholes and Djemba-Djemba higher than Gerrard with regards to their performances in their primes.

And that's just a centre-midfield selection taken purely from the Premierleague...Thierry Henry is the real deal, special player in his day.
