Gerrard = C.U.N.T

Never a penalty, the foul (if there was one) was outside the box, but it still wasn't enough to knock him over. Also (though the ref couldnt have seen) Gerrard had hold of Hibberts shirt.

Things like this make me want to punch Gerrard repeatedly.

Winner.

Hibbert had none of Gerrard's shirt though... :hysterics:

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

I can see how its a pen for sure and you are right about it. The rules of the game would back that up.

I would definitely consider whether Hibbert intended to foul Gerrard and the fact it looks an accidental clash of knees.

But I suppose the key factor from how i would decide things is Gerrards intent, I think he is looking for a pen, so bearing that in mind i dont think it would take a great deal of contact to knock him down.

Would that contact have knocked an honest player down?

The contact that knocks him down is outside IMO but the ref would have to be superhuman to realise that.

Is there such thing as an honest player in that situation?

Once Hibbert tangled with Gerrard I don't think it was possible for him to stay on his feet.

I would like to think that Gerrard had enough to stay on his feet and that he might have had a little burst of energy to gain a yard on Hibbert.

Instead he went for a pen which im not surprised by really he seems to be involved in all these penalty debates!

Gerrard definitely lost momentum after his shirt was tugged quite friskily by Hibbert, so probably thought inviting contact was his best bet...

He is extremely fast but somewhat reliant on being fast.

Gerrard could've been fouled at the centre-circle and you'd still insist it was a pen...

no one is stupid enough to "intend" to foul someone in the area

It's not about stupidity, but of course intentional fouls are committed in the area, namely when defenders think they'll get away with it.
