Let's see who gets this one right.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

You're right about it not being a penalty...but it's definitely a foul.

DaG, whether you like it or not, that is a foul.

What Gerrard did there was intelligent forward play, I used to do it all the time when I was a striker. Cut inside of the defender and INVITE contact. Clever forward's play - RVN did it against Arsenal here -

Keown couldn't touch him.

For me no penalty.

There is a bit of shirt pulling going on probably more so on Gerrard's part and Hibbert's shirt pulling hand is too low for him to generate the force need to pull gerrard sideways.

The ONLY meaningful contact is their knees which clash a little bit Gerrard's right leg plants on the ground and he springs off that foot and just after he does that there is a clash of knees.

This clash is I suppose enough to send Gerrard off balance a little bit and misplace his left foot and then slip on the surface.

But that is debatable as he had already sprung off his right foot and i dont know how the minimal contact could possibly affect Gerrards left leg in mid air.

The contact as well was accidental and time and time again we nothing given for those sort of collisions.

MANYOU, the replay that starts at 1:03 suggests a tangling of the legs. Whether it is accidental or not, it is the price Hibbert pays for getting so close and letting Gerrard get in front of him.

The contact that forced Gerrard to stumble was made just outside the box.

Yep, Hibbert's knee collides into Gerrard's right knee, forcing Gerrard to lose balance...that would send anyone tumbling at the pace Gerrard is running at.

Thats i think the moment that i replayed a bit, didn't realise it was outside as i was focusing so much on the clash.

I did point out the clash was possibly enough to imbalance Gerrard and for me the purely accidental nature of the collision means i think it was slightly harsh on Hibbert.

No penalty. What Gerrard does there whilst in the 50/50, is open his legs wide to enable him to fall without it looking like a dive, one of the techniques used when he dives. Didn't even look like a penalty anyway.

Gerrard has done well to get goalside of Hibbert and Hibbert has paid the price. Once Gerrard manages that, Hibbert cannot afford to get that close and risk colliding with Gerrard at that pace...

And looking again on 1:06, You can see Hibbert has made up enough ground to make a tackle, Gerrard notices this and lets Hibbert get close PULLING Hibberts jersey towards him causing the clash of knees.

Whilst there is a possibility the collision caused Gerrard to fall there is as much possibility that Gerrard done what ive explained abov which can be quite easily classed as gamesmanship/cheating especially considering we have all seen Stevie pull of this sort of thing before.

Yeh, gamesmanship. Slowing down when you get in front and forcing contact. It's what all good attacking players do.

Looking at the second replay (0:47), Hibbert trips himself when his right foot clips the back of his left shin, which then clips Gerrard's trailing leg...

I just don't agree with it Scholes. If Gerrard is letting Hibbert catch him so to speak, then he is playing for the penalty and not for the goal.

So for Hibbert to be penalised for a penalty AND get sent off for falling for Gerrard's CHEATING antics is very harsh IMO.

Im pretty sure that as soon as Gerrard has noticed Hibbert is right alongside him then he cancels any plans to shoot, he is then only interested in drawing Hibbert close enough to get the contact needed to make a dive look realistic. And the ref gives the foul for Hibbert denying Gerrard the scoring opportunity he wasn't going to take anyways.

Harsh. Gerrard's cheating in my book.

I take your point on board, but Hibbert pulls Gerrard's shirt first which enables him to catch up and lessen Gerrard's goalscoring chances, so Gerrard returns the favour and uses it to draw contact, which comes, forcing Gerrard down.

Everton and Hibbert have paid the price for

1. Letting Liverpool break from their corner and

2. Hibbert getting too close to Gerrard.
