Is the next Paul Scholes. Saw this one a City forum earlier and it got me thinking, it really looks true. He is starting to remind me of Scholes at his peak. Pains me to say it as I've never liked Scholes but I'd always have had him in my team. If City aren't top 4 within 3 years Ireland will move to United. |

I must admit he does remind me a bit of Scholes and his vision is up there with the best. |

Every City player will tell you he is the best trainer and the best trainer (like Scholes is at United), is usually the most gifted footballer... Ireland is only 22 now so he has plenty of time to improve, but whether he'll be as potent as Scholes was in his prime I don't know. |

Very impressive performances this season from the lad. Such a shame we wont see him at the WC in 2010. |

He shouldn't be allowed to play for the Republic again. The man is a fecking disgrace. Your girlfriend has a miscarriage, and to get out of Ireland duty, you tell the gaffer your Grandmother just died, FFS what was that all about. I'm sure if my wife/partner had just had a miscarriage, I certainly would not be in the mood for playing football, but all the same, I wouldn't make up an excuse like my Grandmothers died. |

I dont want him near the team, he is a great talent but the way he is acting is too much for me. I have a sneaky suspicion that if we continue to do well results wise in our group and qualify for the WC, he will suddenly have a change of heart. If he attempts anything like that, Trappatoni should tell him to get on his bike. He has surely messed things up for himself, we have replacements doing all the work trying to get the nation to a 3rd World Cup, He cant just walk in to the team now, he's let everyone down and I will be pretty dissapointed in Trappatoni if he lets him back into the team. |

i would love ireland to come back.whelan and gibson arent doing it in midfield at all and ireland would add some bite to our midfield.it would be the best thing for the team to try to get him back.i would welcome him back with open arms. now to the excuse he gave.he said that he made the excuse about his grandmother dieing because he didnt want the press trying to get a story about his girlfriend |

He's only 22?!?! Wow! I've learned something new today lol. I thought he was like 28. Yeah, he looks a great player, Lampard-esque in his timing of runs into the box, but seems full of energy and can strike it from anywhere. Hopefully for you he will stay loyal to City

If I was in Irelands shoes at that moment Im sure i could have thought of a better excuse than "My grandmother died, oh no wait it was my other grandmother that died" Really silly stuff from Ireland and anyways that is done with the excuses have been made and still he doesn't want to return, he has been asked as early as 2 months ago (Nearly a year after this incident) and he is "Not ready" He can come back but not until after the 2010 WC, he has deserted all his compatriots, I cant think of one reason why we should just let him waltz back into the team at the expense of a patriotic player. We have Reid for some invention and he will give everything for Ireland all the time not just when hes "in the mood" |
