There may not be any skill involved in doing it but there is surely technique involved, he was 40 yds out and put it in the net as he intended.

Now I dont see much difference in that to Scholes hitting a 40 yard pass for a teammate to run onto, are you saying that requires no technique as well?

The reason we dont see it all the time is because not everyone can do it.

no im just saying its being played up like he did something really special, of course he has some technique but unless he repeats it then it isnt really down to his ability is it?

Yeah I suppose so, Id rate Senna and Alonso as being very good at this and I have seen them do it quite a few times so maybe he needs to prove he can do it again.

But i'll say right now, we will see Bentley do this more than once in his career, he is a bit like Beckham, very accurate crossing etc. so like Beckham i reckon Bentley could hit the target from a long way out on a regular basis.

Regardless of how good a player Bentley is, he has good technique.

Bentley's goal wasn't luck, at all.

It was inspiration. The vision involved was tremendous. It came from a VERY scrappy passage of play, in which the ball fell to Bentley; he flicked it up, then cut across the ball beautifully, like Scholes did against Barca and Villa. Then to generate that much venom, dip and swerve is incredible.

Almunia isn't to blame, if he was closer to his line and a throughball had been slipped through that resulted in a goal, he'd also get blamed, and let's face it, that is more likely. It looked like Almunia could have got a firmer hand to the ball but when you watch the strike from another angle you will realise how much swerve and dip it had on it.

Lampard's goal was amazing. Right on the edge of the penalty area just chipping it towards the far post. You very rarely see goals like that, if ever. He is so two-footed and can do anything you ask him to, with ease. Special player.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

i disagree, there has been nothing from bently to suggest that the shot was down to anything but fortune

His set-piece and free-kick technique is brilliant. I don't rate him that highly but his style and technique when striking a ball is Beckham-esque...and that volley has to be applauded for the vision and execution of the strike.

You're basically saying he doesn't know how to volley.

no i am saying he hasnt ever done anything even close to the quality of that strike to suggest that it wasnt more about luck than his ability

Well he's done it now, and the technique in that strike suggests he knows damn well how to volley a ball sweetly :)

It may only come off 1 every 10 attempts but the same could probably apply to Lampard's effort.

well unless he does something simular again, which i doubt he will then i will continue to believe it was a lucky hit
