Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that events between Fratton Park and White Hart Lane made him raise his eyebrows higher than usual, whilst Yaya Touré is reportedly closer to an Emirates switch...

The 24 hours between Saturday and Sunday evening were a veritable Premiership whirlwind, even leaving canny boss Arsene Wenger dazed.

His Gunners needed the power of substitute Emmanuel Adebayor to finally overcome Gianfranco Zola's plucky West Ham United. They won 2-0 following a tight encounter.

Discussing the importance of the win, the Frenchman said: "One week ago everyone made Chelsea super-favourites, now it is Liverpool. Things change very quickly, which is why it makes it very interesting.

"We were very close last year and with 83 points...many times you would have been champions.

"Now? Well, this was a big win for us. To come out of it with a frustrating 0-0 would have felt like a wasted opportunity to get closer to the top.

"West Ham can feel frustrated because they defended well and gave everything. We had some strikers on the bench, though, who the difference in the end."

Surprises

Asked about North London rivals Tottenham and their hurried sacking of Juande Ramos and appointment of Portsmouth's Harry Redknapp, he replied: "It was a surprise for that to happen and [Redknapp] to move from Portsmouth to Tottenham.

"October in football is full of surprises."

January, though, should be more predictable. Fresh reports in the News of the World suggest that the Gunners are ready to return for Barcelona ace Yaya Toure in the New Year.

Wenger was rebuffed over the summer by the Ivorian, with wage demands cited as a major stumbling block.

However, new reports suggest that the Emirates club are ready to splash out in excess of £50,000-a-week, in addition to the previously agreed £8m transfer fee.

An Arsenal source revealed: "It’s now likely that he and the Gunners can resolve the issue."

Because we have Denilson, Diaby, and Song going for that position, all very young players. Also Ramsey is waiting in the wings.

Why do you and Homer think it is so likely?

Says in paper and in an Arsenal source that it is very likely and very close to happening.

Nah.

Nah.
Scholes

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Homer, why would "an Arsenal source" ever go to a paper and say a deal is close to being done?

I give it a 3% chance of happening...

Hope we do sign Ya Ya Toure, he reminds me of Vieira.
Yes we do have other midfielders but he looks so good.
Hope you are right Homer.

Get him quick and sell Song now because he is a liability.
