It's a dangerous game, making pre-season predictions. But with just days to go before the big kick-off in the Premier League, the Soccer Saturday gang have gallantly agreed to put their necks - and their credibility - on the line. Who will lift the Premier League trophy in May? Which manager has made the shrewdest buy? Who is most likely to do a Derby? And which member of the panel has been hogging the sun-loungers all summer? Read on as the finest pundits on the box use their encyclopaedic football knowledge to predict the new season's stars, strugglers and stragglers, as well as give each other some gentle ribbing! Southampton idol Matt Le Tissier looks into the future - but are his predictions saintly or sinful? Champions I think Scolari will make a big difference at Chelsea. They got very close to Manchester United last season with not such a great manager and now that they've got a very good manager in charge I think they'll pip them. I know he hasn't managed in the Premier League before but he's got enough experience from around the world to be able to adapt to the English game fairly quickly. He's worked with top players and I think he'll get the best out of the Chelsea squad. Champions League spots It will be a hell of a job for somebody to break into the top four so I think it will be the usual suspects again. I'd go for Manchester United in second, Liverpool in third and Arsenal fourth. I think the signing of Robbie Keane will be key for Liverpool and will lift them above Arsenal, whose lack of investment could cost them a little bit. Losing guys like Mathieu Flamini and Alexander Hleb won't help their cause much either. Fit for fifth Spurs have spent a lot of money and they've bought some quality players so they're my tip for fifth and an outside bet for the top four. Juande Ramos has got a few months under his belt and he can kick on after a good start. Modric was a good signing and will make a difference, but if they lose Berbatov and fail to replace him with quality then they might not even make the top seven. The other contenders are Man City - especially if they land Santa Cruz - and then Aston Villa. I think Everton will struggle to challenge for that position because they've lost a few players and haven't brought many in. Surprise package A lot of people are saying Newcastle are going to finish in the bottom half, but they're the sort of team who might get some momentum going. I don't think they're going to be up there battling for trophies, but I don't think they'll be scrapping it out at the bottom. And with Kevin Keegan at the helm, they have the potential to challenge for a European spot. Going down I think everyone is unanimous in their view that Hull and Stoke will go down. I'd like to see the promoted sides go on a bit of a run, but looking at their squads it's going to be a long hard slog for them. Then it could be one club from six or seven for the other spot and if I was to stick my neck on the line I'd go for Bolton. They got away with it a bit last season and spending £11m on Johan Elmander seems a lot for somebody who isn't really a big name. West Brom have the biggest chance of the three coming up, but I don't think they'll be comfortable by any stretch of the imagination. Fulham have bought a lot of players but may find it hard to gel quickly and I'm not convinced by the players that Sunderland have brought in either. There'll be a few teams in the scrap. Golden boot I think Cristiano Ronaldo will struggle to repeat last season, especially as he's missing the start of the campaign with an injury, so I think it's between Fernando Torres and Emannuel Adebayor. I'd say Adebayor is the value bet out of those two and if you're looking for a dark horse then Jermaine Defoe could be worth a punt. I think he'll enjoy playing with Peter Crouch and picking up a few assists and he'd be a good outside bet. Best buy I'd go for Robbie Keane at Liverpool because he's such a clever footballer and I think he'll link up really well with Fernando Torres. That looks like a really good combination because Keane can see a pass and that will benefit Torres with his runs and his pace. Furthermore, Keane knows where the goal is himself, having joined the Premier League's 100 goals club and that could be the signing that makes Liverpool a bit more dangerous. Barking buy There's quite a few that have baffled me, but the one that stands out was Sunderland spending £2.5million on El Hadji Diouf. As a forward he has got a shocking goalscoring record and Sunderland really need somebody who's going to get into double figures. It's surprised me that Roy Keane has gone for somebody who's averaging about one goal in every 15 games. Soccer Saturday summer slacker That's got to be Alan McInally because once the season ended and there was no work to be done he'll have spent all of his time on a beach, playing golf or drinking for Scotland. Jeff will be a close runner-up though. He's been known to fluctuate a little bit in the weight department and every time I've texted him over the summer he's been in the Caribbean or somewhere else in the world. I imagine he's spent a couple of months eating and drinking too much. |

He said Diouf is a duff buy which is rubbish as I feel Diouf is one of the signings of the season. Not one person has said Arsenal will finish in the top 2 and alot of people keep saying 4th. Robbie Keane has done little to impress me so far. |

diouf is a debatable one for me the more and more i think about it. Good price for the player but depends if he really cuts it, he hasnt scored more than about 5 goals in the last 5 seasons and hasnt been assiting massively either. If he can step his game up at a new club then it will be a good buy but it could go either way. Keane is still settling, if things pan out as we hope then it could be one of the most prolific partnerships in the prem, only time will tell. As for arsenal, i think it will be chelsea at the top and united to follow too, I also think we are capable of pipping you into third spot but i do believe the top 4 will be very close together, whether it pans out like that I cant say for sure but thats just a prediction. On the whole its not a bad prediction for the forthcoming season from le tiss, certainly dont think its idiotic |

Diouf is more than just scoring goals he sets up plenty and works really hard for the team and is a great character to have in and around the squad. I accept that Chelsea and Man Utd are the favourites as they have better squads than Arsenal and tons more experience etc etc but Keane alone doesnt make a huge difference as the areas Liverpool needed strengthening they didnt and I have my doubts about Dossena who seems to be the type of player that gives away lots of free kicks and pens. Le Tiss never gets his predictions right so im hopeful. |

diouf has been hit and miss in his time in the prem, he'll have some stunning games and then some truly awful ones too, he is a gamble i think. Could prove to be excellent, could prove to be atrocious. Keane will have stengthened us, not sure how adding a potential 20+ goal a season player to our squad cant. He will take a bit of time to settle in but i am sure he will flourish. I certainly wouldnt count dossena out, he played well in pre season, improving all the time, last night was just poor all round. End of the day evra was poor when he joined and look how he has turned out. Not every player will join the prem and be a sensation over night, most need time to settle in before we see their true play. He's certainly got the talent, so long as he settles ok then i am confident it will come out. |

We will have to see about Diouf but for 2.5m you have nothing to lose at end of the day. Robbie Keane is a great addition no doubt about that as Liverpool needed another striker but I cant believe that Rafa has not bought a wide player when clearly you are crying out for one. Dossena has looked a little rash so of course I have my doubts about him but I understand that it might take him time to adapt so I will give him 6 months to prove me wrong. |

we could have done with wide players but it depends on how things pan out. End of the day we havent had a fully settled and performing winger for years and yet we've finished 3rd twice in three years and pushed closer to the top again this year. Babel I have confidence will come good, the signs are there and the latter half of last season saw vast improvements, he started using his left foot more and actually playing down the line rather than cutting in every time. Should he improve enough then him and dossena overlapping could prove to be very useful on the left side. On the right we still have pennant, kuyt and gerrard able to play there, not natural wingers i'll give you that but wide men that can do a job. Also depends a lot on the formation, if we play differently then it negates the wingers to a sense. Theres many variations. To be honest there is a lack of decent available wingers out there at the moment that clubs are willing to sell. |

They all seem like fair enough views to me....I think Matt Le tis is 1 of the most down to earth ex players around and none of those predictions are daft....I think Diouf is hit n miss as Jimmy said and as ive said in the past also as he seems to perform great a few times a season then go missing for 10 games running. |

Maybe if you had natural wingers than maybe you could be so much closer to the top rather than gettingf players to fill in and do a job. Vicente,Joaquin,Capel,Navas,Silva,Mata,SWP,Drenthe are just so of the names I think could do a good job for Liverpool. Ryan Babel reminds me of Nani in the fact that he is very talented but also very greedy.

navas wouldnt move, he still has chronic homesickness effecting him and finds it hard enough to play away games in europe let alone move to another club Silva didnt want to go, he just signed a new 5 year contract and said all along he wouldnt move to england Drenthe and SWP are out of the question with neither club interested in selling. That leave Vincente, Joaquin and capel, in all honesty I think about the only one possibly available there would have been vincente. Joaquin has been hot and cold (more cold) over the last couple of years Ryan just needs a bit more time, i reckon we'll see a far better player this season |

Ye I forgot about Navas having homesickness
he is a bit like Bojan who suffers with simular problems but not as bad. If Liverpool really wanted Silva then they would have got him as Valencia are a selling club same goes for other Valencia players I mentioned. Real Mmadrid would have sold Drenthe with no problems and Capel has a release clause in his contract. Ryan Babel is still young and will improve but him and Pennant are the only natural wide players Liverpool have.

i dont think we would, the player didnt want to leave spain as he categorically said, the club were fairly insistant that they wanted to keep the player too, we certainly weren't the only ones interested with united being touted to have enquired yet still he wanted to remain so I cant see how we could have got him. Capel's release clause covers la liga only i believe, £12 million or something but outside la liga your looking at their evaluation which is nearer £20 million. |

There are plenty of good wingers across the globe but maybe Rafa feels you dont need one. Can Kuyt,Keane and Torres all play in the same team? I found a comment on sky sports from a Villa fan http://forums.skysports.com/viewtopic.aspx...=20&t=42648&p=1 |
