theres more to football than saturday games mate, what about games during the week and sunday, he knows his stuff he go to games as does the other pundits

The fact is, he is in that studio watching the game on a screen and is passing judgment on performances.

You can still see off the ball movement on a screen just not to the extent of seeing the game live. Watching games live make you appreciate the high tempo of a game.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

You only see RVP once a season, if that :deepthought:

If you think Van Persie is an average at best player I can seriously cannot help you. Anyone of average knowledge can see his quality.

You think Van Perise is average yet rate Rooney as class? Are you sat behind a wall at these matches you go to?

You think Sneijder is average, opinions are likely to differ, just debate them ina sensible manner and back up your points with reasons.

Ok, Van Persie posseses excellent technical abilty, great creatvity, a good passer, great at set pieces, fantastic striker on him, good vision. Hardly an average player. Our second best player when fit.

Yes, and Gerrard/Sneijder/Lampard aren't average either. I'm not a fan of Gerrard's and like Rooney feel he's overrated, but brandishing them average is wrong.

which is enough to see he isnt 'world class' which is a very much overused word anyway, i've see fabregas about the same amout of times, but you can see he's a class player with a presence about him, adebayor also has impressed me in the last few seasons, berbatov at spurs also, and kenwyn jones gave our defence one of their hardest games last season at old t, two of the best players i've seen live in recent years were messi and riquelme(i know i'm a little biased on argentina's players) but they were fantastic, also kaka for both milan and brazil

Adebayor and Jones are nowhere near the talent of Van Persie.

And seeing a player once live is worth more than seeing them week in week out? Close this thread Scholes, the we are all knee deep in the bollox

Don't take this the wrong way, but I would rather have DaGunners' opinion on a player he's seen on TV play 5 times than yours on a player you've seen live once against United. You cannot judge a player on one performance. One performance often gives an indication of the quality a player possesses but a truer reflection is given over a longer period of time.

i've seen a hell of a lot of players through the years, and some live up to the hype and expectations, others don't, van persie doesnt excite me, doesnt get me on my feet, and when he players against us i never feel threatened by him, adebayor is different he's always a threat, good on the ball for a man of his size, and his certainly your best forward, i'm going to the 2nd day of the emirates cup, i'll update the van persie issue then

First time i saw Eto'o play, against Chelsea in the CL, it really did help me appreiciate how good he is, with his movement and, more than anything, his work rate. Thats why i rate him so highly...and that was a bad game by his standards.

So i agree that a live game can give you a very different perspective on a player, but TV helps to get a good enough view on a player to judge whether he's good or not. However, match of the day (or, Ronaldo bashing as it becamlast season) gives nowhere near the whole story. So i would advise anyone not to base opinions on MOTD.

Winner.

Also, managers dont even see players they buy live more than a handful of times. They just dont have time during a season. They go mostly by what their scouts say and VIDEO FOOTAGE.
