Spurs have knocked back Manchester United’s £20m bid for Dimitar Berbatov – because they want £35m for the Bulgarian striker. Tottenham base their valuation on a £33m offer they received from Manchester City in January. But a compromise of £25m is likely to be agreed before the closure of next month’s transfer window. Spurs know that Berbatov, 27, is determined to go and United are confident of clinching the signing of manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s top transfer target. And that’s because they know the White Hart Lane club need to raise cash to chase their own targets. Manager Juande Ramos needs £17m to fund his pursuit of Blackburn’s David Bentley (below) and £11m for Espanyol striker Luis Garcia. The club’s official line last night was that their position on both Berbatov and Robbie Keane – who is wanted by Liverpool – has not changed. A club source insisted Spurs do not want to sell and said neither star has handed in a request. But it is understood Ramos has sanctioned the sale to fund his spending and chairman Daniel Levy will now await an improved offer from United. Barcelona are also after Berbatov, but it would be a huge surprise if he didn’t end up at Old Trafford. Fergie intends making only one major signing this summer and that’s Berbatov, whose skill and finishing is much admired by the Scot. And the Old Trafford faithful will welcome the shift in emphasis from the long, drawn-out Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga to the chase for Berbatov. |

Dont let his performance at the Euros fool you, Gomez is the mustard mate. Can do it all. Much better than Klose and also better than Podolski. |

I saw him in the Bundesliga last season, and would still rate Podolski higher, Klose is past it IMO, Gomez i would say is a bit like Crouch, hot and cold. |

Gomez is much better than Crouch. Also, he has been best striker in Budesliag for 2 seasons now. He is good in the air, creative, brilliant finisher, and good pace for a bigger lad. |
