Robbie Fowler has left Cardiff ahead of a proposed return to the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers.

The veteran striker ended a second spell at Liverpool last summer as he moved to Ninian Park on a free transfer.

However, new Blackburn manager Paul Ince is keen to offer Fowler another opportunity to play top-flight football and has invited the 33-year-old to the club's pre-season training camp in Germany.

A statement on Championship outfit Cardiff's official website said: "Late on Thursday Robbie informed us that he has been offered the opportunity to join Blackburn Rovers.

"We fully understand the lure of the Premier League was a major factor in his decision and we wish Robbie well in the future at his new club."

I doubt the Blackburn fans will be happy about this. Fowler is too old to cut it in the Prem, but could be used as a decent inpact player.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Even the fans will not expect him to play every game. But I don't think it is such a bad move. He might be too old to score 15 odd goals in the season, but can certainly contrivute.

What a waste of money. A coked out and washed up striker. At a boy Ince!
I am soft.
