Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has ruled out making a move for Spain striker David Villa but said Robbie Keane is still on the Reds' radar. Benitez, who has allowed striker Peter Crouch to join Portsmouth, had been linked with the Valencia player who top-scored at last month's Euro 2008 finals. 'I said the other day that Villa is one of the names we had on our list, but I can say at this moment that it is not an option for us,' Benitez told Liverpool's website. 'We know Villa is a very good player, we know the price and we know the players we have, so when you consider everything we decided he was one of the names but, at this moment, not our target.' However, Benitez confirmed that a move for Tottenham Hotspur's Ireland striker Robbie Keane was a possibility. 'Keane is one of the other names and OK we are still working with other names. We were in contact and we will see now,' he said.

Keane would probably cost a similar amount as Villa so how can he say Villa is an unlikely signing. Valencia are in debt and Spurs want to keep there best players.. don't see why he can't make an offer.

rumour is that Villa has been priced at about £32 million, which is certainly too much, Keane if we could get him would probably be a max of about £20million so i think thats enough of a difference :)

PErsonally I doubt we could get Keane though.

It looks like they aren't selling Silva so £32M is an over estimation.

theres a lot of competition for top players out there, and clubs who have top players don't want them to go hence the big price tags placed on them,
would rafa let torres or gerrard go for 10/15m apiece or fergie let ronaldo,or ronney go for the same, no clubs who have assets need to make the most of them, its a competitive sport not a charity

I am beggining to think Villa may stay. Madrid are the favorites for his signature IMO.

I can't see why Sours will let Keane go. They obviously are building for a top 5 finish in the near future, and Keane is one half of the best strike pair in the country.
At the same time, Valencia's policy seems to be a bit strange. I thought that either of Villa/Silva would be sold to help with their debt.
Where would Keane play though ? Behind Torres ?? Then where does Gerrard go ? They have Mascherano and presumably Barry in CM. Somebody might have to sit on the bench ??

gerrard would go back to cente, keane playing in that role he had. Barry can play centre or out wide as we know, masch in front of the back four. OF course there is going to be some slight movement depending on who we are playing, formations change acccording to circumstances.

Hmm, something like this ?

--------------Masch---------------

Babel ------ Gerrard --------- Barry

--------Keane----------------------

-------------------Torres------------

This looks pretty good, though I'd still prefer Barry to play as CM along with Masch, and have a genuine winger on the left/right.

------ Masch ----------Barry-----

Silva (?) ------ Gerrard ----------- Babel

---------------Torres ----------------

Is Rafa rumoured to be after any new wingers ? Benayoun, Kuyt, Pennant are hardly good enough for LFC.

Liverpool would suffer with Gerrard in the middle of a 442.

Liverpool did a lot better with Gerrard behind Torred than with him in the CM position, you're right.

aye but purely because torres didnt have decent support before then, gerrard played almost a support striker role which is a role made for Keane.

I think Rafa should keep him behind Torres and spend most of his money on a winger or 2. Remember, Babel is a striker.

aye babel can play up there too, but i would take Robbie Keane any day of the week, i've been wanting him to sign for us for years and he could make a massive difference too us

If Berba goes, I dont think it will happen. Spurs would need 2 new strikers.
