Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer dies

Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer has passed away, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have confirmed.

The Buccaneers said Glazer was 85 years old, although his listed date of birth is 25th of May 1928 which would have meant he turned 86 three days ago.

Glazer acquired ownership of Manchester United in 2003, with sons Joel and Avram serving as co-chairmen, though the family have come under much criticism for their running of the Premier League giants.

It was confirmed that New York-born Glazer, who also owned NFL franchise Tampa Bay Buccaneers, had died on Wednesday morning.

The only thing I'm stunned about is that he was 86, I wonder what his secret is (was) to looking so young.

I remember every United fan hating him when he first arrived, was never quite sure why. RIP.

Does this have any significance to the direction of the club going forward?

Wow, sad news. RIP, he's done a lot for us in the last few years, certainly gone some way to repairing his initial damage when he took ownership.

Would you say he glazed over the cracks?

I'm probably in the minority of united fans that appreciates what the Glazers have done. Ok they saddled us with debt but they bossed the commercial scene like no other club. Nearly doubled our value, got shirt and other sponsors that broke record not to mention an upcoming kit deal that could be over $1 billion over 10 years. He and his sons have set a benchmark in world football. As soon as the interest payments go and the debt dwindles over the next decade we will be rolling in money.

FA Cup final is the same day as the Copa Del Rey final. I hope I don't have to miss Arsenal.

They actually did double the value of the club. It's fallen down in the last 12 months to just under double the amount the club was worth in 2007.
