Pochettino in 'advanced talks' to become Tottenham boss

Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino is in 'advanced talks' to become the new Tottenham manager according to the Press Association.

The Argentine has just one year left on his contract with the Saints and the bookmakers make him odds on favourite for the job with no better than 1/3 available.

After Southampton's final game of the season against Manchester United, Pochettino said it might be time for the club to embark on a "new project."

"I have said that this club now deserves to be in a new project, the board has to decide how that happens, two years, three years or four years - I just want to sit down and talk and we will see what happens," he said.

Pochettino guided Saints to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League this term and earned positive reviews for bringing an entertaining style to a young fresh team.

However, the team risks losing a number of their stars in the summer with Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw and Dejan Lovren all heavily linked with moves away from the club.

There'll certainly be a clear-out at Southampton then, shame because the club looked like they had massive potential at one point.

Good appointment from Spurs, Pochettino has a job on his hands though. So many positions to improve and so much deadwood to get rid of.

Spurs keep picking managers that I find hard to hate. AVB, Sherwood and now Pochettino. :(

Official, five year deal signed. Nice compensation package for him in 18 months' time.

I can see Pochettino doing a great job and Levy will stick with him... until a better club comes along and nicks him. And Levy will be back to square one sacking managers because they didn't match up to Pochettino.

Flash in the pan manager that inherited a very good Southampton team. Fair enough he played the youngsters and got them to play good football but he flop at Tottenham.

Strong words mate. He worked wonders at Espanyol too in his first few seasons. Nothing wrong with him as a manager.

Next season is going to be the most competitive in PL history. Spurs will struggle to make top 4 even if Pochettino hits the ground running. And its unusual for a manager to come in and get that reaction. I bet he will be unemployed this time next year.

That doesn't mean he's a flash in the pan.

Follows the general Spurs trend of appointments. Flit from continental to wideboy every time.
Ramos - continental
Redknapp - wideboy
AVB - continental
Sherwood - wideboy
Pochettino - continental
